Description: | The number of episodes of admitted patient care. An episode of admitted patient care can be the total hospital stay (from admission to discharge, transfer or death) or a portion of a hospital stay beginning or ending in a change of type of care (for example, from acute to rehabilitation). 'Separation' also means the process by which an admitted patient completes an episode of care by being discharged, dying, transferred to another hospital or by a change of care type. For 2012-13 onwards, this indicator excludes admissions funded by the Tasmanian Government Endoscopy and Elective Surgery Initiative and the National Partnership Agreement on Improving Health Services in Tasmania. A separation may be formal or statistical. Formal separation: The administrative process by which a hospital records the cessation of treatment and/or care and/or accommodation of a patient. Statistical separation: The administrative process by which a hospital records the cessation of an episode of care for a patient within the one hospital stay. |
