Work is required to improve the identification of Indigenous Australians within this data. |
Other issues caveats: | Excludes private hospitals for Tasmania, the ACT and NT.
Disaggregation by Indigenous status, remoteness area and SEIFA of residence within individual states/territories is subject to data quality considerations. Some disaggregations could result in numbers too small for publication. The number of overnight separations is considered to be more comparable than the total number of separations, among jurisdictions and between the public and private sectors. This is because there is variation in admission practices and policies which lead to variation in the number of same-day admissions among providers and over time. Interpretation of rates for jurisdictions should take into consideration cross-border flows. The quality of data on Indigenous status is not considered to be adequate for analysis purposes for the ACT and Tasmania. |
